Getting Ready  for Middle School: Fears and Faves

Transitioning from elementary school to middle school is a big deal!  This transition can trigger a lot of strong feelings like fear, anxiety, sadness or excitement and it can become overwhelming.  You may have A LOT of questions.  What if I can't open my locker?  What if I forget my schedule?  Will I get lost?  Am I going to fit in?  Will I make friends?  It is totally natural to experience strong emotions as you go from what has become so familiar and comfortable to something unfamiliar and unknown.  Just remember that you are not alone.  You are surrounded by people who can help and offer you support. Teachers, principals, parents, relatives, school counselors, older siblings and friends are just some of the people who will be there for you.  The video below about Fears and Faves was created by sixth graders who have been through this transition and watching it may ease some of the anxiety you might be feeling.  You got this, Fifth Graders!

How do I open a combination lock?

This video shows you how to open a combination lock.  If you have a combination lock in your house, give it a try.  If not, you may want to consider buying a lock and practice during the summer.  Once you get the hang of it, you'll probably wonder why you were so worried about it in the first place.

No lock at home?  No problem.  Click on this lock and try it online!
